Irving Sample, who began his career in the Questioned
Documents Section of the Secret Service and now works as an LAPD forensic
document analyst, examines the crossword puzzle found at the crime scene one
month ago along with the puzzle Lena just found at Nikki Brant’s house. Sample discovers
an anomaly that matches both puzzles. It’s the unusual way the killer forms the
letter “P.” Even more, he tells Lena that the man she’s looking for is left-handed,
which clears James Brant of his wife’s murder. Sample claims the anomaly is so
unique that it’s as good as a fingerprint.
