Killing the Author’s Voice

More Fun and Mischief in the Death of a Great Art Form

How can two people claim to have written a single novel? Two people, even three or four, can write a screenplay and do it well. Two or more writers can develop a story or even a season of episodes. Two people can write a song, a play, a comic strip. But two people cannot paint a painting or sculpt a piece of clay. And they cannot TELL a story. Two people cannot “share” an author’s voice. If people say otherwise, they’re bullshitting you, either for money or power. It usually takes one or the other for someone to sell out.
